San Diego is home to the world's first surf report! In the early 1960s, a local surfer named Jack Murphy (a.k.a. "Murph the Surf") started calling lifeguard stations to check wave conditions, then shared the info on an AM radio stationโ€”essentially creating the first-ever surf report.
