January Wave of the Month ๐ŸŒŠ

Sunset Cliffs

Welcome to winter! January is for cold water and pumping surf.

Powerful northwest swells from Alaska begin pounding the San Diego coastline in January. Sunset Cliffs faces North making it perfectly positioned for these swells.

My favorite part about surfing Sunsett Cliffs when itโ€™s big is that itโ€™s reef bottom holds waves well overhead when other breaks close out. Find a channel to paddle out annd you will score your best rides of the winter.

Heads up, Sunset Cliffs becomes completely swamped during a high tide so I recommend surfing during a low to mid-tide. And bring your step up board or gun when itโ€™s overhead. The 7โ€™6 Over Easy will shine in the long, peeling waves of Sunset Cliffs and provide the extra volume needed for an easy takeoff.
